Hellbrunn Palace

Hellbrunn Palace, located just south of Salzburg, was built as a summer residence for Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus in the early 17th century. It is world-famous for its Wasserspiele (trick fountains), which were designed to surprise and amuse guests. The palace itself is modest compared to other European palaces, but the real draw is the extensive parkland filled with hidden water features, grottos, and mechanical figures that spray unsuspecting visitors. The park also includes the Hellbrunn Zoo, the Monatsschlössl (a hunting lodge turned folklore museum), and the Steintheater, one of Europe's oldest open-air theaters. A visit is a playful and refreshing experience, especially on a warm day.
