The Felsenreitschule is a breathtaking open-air theater hewn directly into the limestone of the Mönchsberg mountain. Its most striking feature is the three-tiered arcaded gallery, originally part of a riding school for the prince-archbishops, which now serves as seating. The stage is set against the natural rock face, creating a dramatic backdrop for operas, plays, and concerts during the Salzburg Festival. Visitors are awed by the fusion of architecture and nature, where the rugged stone contrasts with the refined performances. The venue's unique acoustics and atmosphere make it one of the most memorable settings for live theatre. Even without a show, the exterior and surrounding area offer a glimpse into Salzburg's cultural heritage.
