Kaprun is a charming village just 8 km from Zell am See, nestled in the Salzach Valley at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. It offers a mix of history, nature, and high-alpine adventure. The village itself is picturesque, with traditional Austrian houses and a peaceful atmosphere. The main attraction is the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which rises to 3,203 meters and offers year-round skiing and snowboarding. A cable car takes you up to the 'Top of Salzburg' viewing platform, where you can see 360-degree views of the Alps. In summer, the glacier is a popular destination for hiking and glacier tours. Another must-see is the Sigmund-Thun-Klamm, a narrow gorge carved by the Kapruner Ache river. A wooden walkway leads you through the gorge, past thundering waterfalls and moss-covered rocks. Kaprun Castle (Schloss Kaprun) is a medieval fortress perched on a hill, now housing a restaurant and event venue. The Kaprun High Mountain Reservoirs (Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden) are impressive hydroelectric dams that offer guided tours and stunning views.
