Annenheim is a charming lakeside village on the northern shore of Lake Ossiach, just a few kilometers from Villach. It is best known as the base station for the Kanzelbahn cable car, which whisks visitors up to Gerlitzen Mountain, a popular destination for hiking, mountain biking, and winter skiing. The village itself is small and tranquil, with a lovely lakeside promenade, a beach, and a handful of restaurants serving Carinthian specialties. From the top of Gerlitzen, at over 1,900 meters, you get sweeping views of Lake Ossiach, the Karawanken Alps, and on clear days, all the way to the Julian Alps in Slovenia. Annenheim offers a perfect blend of alpine adventure and lakeside relaxation, making it a favorite day trip from Villach. The cable car operates year-round, with summer offering hiking trails and paragliding, while winter brings ski slopes and snowshoeing.
