Vienna City Hall, or Rathaus, dominates the Rathausplatz with its intricate neo-Gothic facade and towering central spire. Built between 1872 and 1883, it serves as the seat of the city's mayor and government. Visitors can admire the exterior's detailed stonework, statues, and the iconic Rathausmann statue atop the tower. Inside, guided tours reveal grand halls, including the Festival Hall with its impressive chandeliers. The building is especially lively during winter when the Wiener Eistraum transforms the square into a massive ice skating rink, and in summer when the square hosts film screenings and concerts. The Life Ball, a major AIDS charity event, also takes place here, drawing international attention.
