The Kunsthistorisches Museum, located on Vienna's Ringstraße, is one of the finest art museums globally. Its vast collection spans ancient Egyptian artifacts, classical antiquities, and European paintings from the Renaissance to the Baroque. The Picture Gallery is particularly renowned for its holdings of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the largest collection of his works anywhere, as well as masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Titian, and Caravaggio. The building itself is a work of art, with a grand marble staircase, ornate ceilings, and a magnificent dome. Visitors can easily spend hours exploring the galleries, which are arranged chronologically and by school. The museum also houses the Kunstkammer, a cabinet of curiosities filled with intricate objects from the Habsburg collections.

Don't miss

  • See the world's largest collection of Bruegel paintings, including 'The Tower of Babel'
  • Admire Vermeer's 'The Art of Painting' and other Dutch masters
  • Explore the Kunstkammer's exotic and intricate objects
