Keutschacher See is a small, shallow lake surrounded by extensive reed beds, located a short distance from Velden. Unlike the more developed lakes in the region, Keutschacher See has a wild, natural character. The reed beds provide habitat for numerous bird species, making it a prime spot for birdwatching. A walking path circles the lake, offering glimpses of waterfowl, herons, and occasionally kingfishers. The water is clean but less suitable for swimming due to the reeds and muddy bottom; however, there are a few designated swimming areas with grassy banks. The atmosphere is serene, with few visitors, perfect for those seeking solitude in nature. The lake is also used for fishing, with carp and pike present. In autumn, the reeds turn golden, adding to the scenic beauty.

Don't miss

  • Birdwatching from the observation points along the path
  • Walking trail around the lake (approx. 3 km)
  • Designated swimming spots with grassy areas
  • Fishing opportunities (permit required)
