Planai is the dominant mountain overlooking Schladming, rising to 1,894 meters at its summit. It is a year-round playground: in winter, it forms the core of the Schladming ski area with 40 kilometers of well-groomed slopes, including the famous World Cup downhill course. The Planai cable car, a modern gondola, whisks visitors from the town center to the top in about 10 minutes. At the summit, a panoramic restaurant serves Austrian cuisine with views of the Dachstein glacier and the Enns Valley. Summer brings hiking trails, mountain biking routes, and a via ferrata. The mountain's distinctive feature is its broad, sunny slopes, making it ideal for both beginners and experts. The Planai also hosts night skiing events and the annual Planai Classic car race.
