Salzburg Cathedral (Dom zu Salzburg) is a magnificent baroque cathedral that dominates the city's skyline with its twin towers and large copper dome. Built on the foundations of an earlier Romanesque church, the current structure was consecrated in 1628 and is considered one of the finest baroque buildings north of the Alps. The interior is adorned with intricate stucco work, frescoes by Italian artists, and a grand organ that Mozart himself once played. The baptismal font, where Mozart was baptized, is a highlight. Visitors can explore the nave, chapels, and crypt, and climb the towers for panoramic views of Salzburg. The cathedral's acoustics are renowned, and concerts are held regularly. Its location in the Domplatz, surrounded by historic buildings, makes it a central point of the Old Town.
