Hochtann Mountain Pass is a dramatic high-altitude road that links the villages of Schröcken and Warth in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. Situated at an elevation of around 1,675 meters, the pass winds through rugged alpine terrain, providing travelers with sweeping vistas of the surrounding Lechtal Alps. The drive itself is an experience, with steep gradients and tight switchbacks that demand careful navigation, but the reward is a sense of remoteness and pristine nature. In summer, the pass is a gateway for hikers and cyclists seeking access to high-altitude trails, while in winter it becomes a key route for skiers heading to the Warth-Schröcken ski area. The landscape is characterized by rocky peaks, alpine meadows, and occasional glimpses of wildlife such as chamois or marmots. The pass is particularly striking at sunrise or sunset when the light paints the mountains in shades of gold and pink. Despite its altitude, the road is well-maintained and usually open from late spring to early autumn, weather permitting.
