Eissee (Ice Lake) is a picturesque glacial lake nestled on the Dachstein plateau, surrounded by rocky terrain and remnants of glaciers. The lake is fed by meltwater and often retains ice patches well into summer. Hiking to Eissee offers a moderately challenging trek with rewarding views of the lake and the surrounding peaks. The trail starts from the Dachstein cable car top station and winds across the plateau. What makes it distinctive is its remote, pristine setting and the striking contrast of turquoise water against the grey limestone. You'll see the lake's clear waters, possible icebergs, and alpine flora along the way. It's a quieter alternative to the more popular glacier attractions.
