The Hungerburgbahn is a modern funicular that connects downtown Innsbruck with the Hungerburg neighborhood on the slopes of the Nordkette mountain range. The ride itself is an attraction, as the sleek glass-and-steel cars glide steeply upward, providing passengers with ever-expanding views of Innsbruck, the Inn Valley, and the surrounding Alps. The lower station is conveniently located near the Congress Center and the historic old town, making it easy to incorporate into a day of sightseeing. Once at the top, visitors can explore the Hungerburg district, which features a mix of residential areas, hotels, and restaurants, as well as access to hiking trails and the Nordkette cable car for further ascent. The Hungerburgbahn is renowned for its architectural design by Zaha Hadid, with fluid, futuristic stations that contrast beautifully with the natural landscape.
