Fluchthorn, standing at 3,399 meters, is one of the highest peaks in the Silvretta Alps and marks the border between Austria and Switzerland. Its name, meaning 'flight thorn,' hints at its dramatic, rocky profile. The mountain is a magnet for experienced climbers seeking a classic alpine challenge. The standard route from the Swiss side via the Fluchthornhütte involves a glacier crossing and a steep, exposed ridge to the summit. From the top, the panorama is immense: the entire Silvretta range unfolds, with the Piz Buin, Gross Litzner, and the Engadin valley visible on clear days. For those not climbing, Fluchthorn is a spectacular sight from the Galtür area, especially from the Jamtal valley. The mountain's north face, with its sheer rock and ice, is a dramatic feature. The ascent is serious and requires good conditions, but the reward is a true alpine experience.
