Spitz, a picturesque village in the Wachau region of Austria, is a haven for wine lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Nestled along the Danube River, the village is surrounded by steep terraced vineyards that produce some of Austria's finest wines. Visitors can wander through narrow cobblestone streets lined with traditional wine taverns (Heurigen) and sample local Grüner Veltliner or Riesling. The dominant landmark is the Burgruine Hinterhaus, a medieval castle ruin perched on a hill overlooking the village. A hike up to the ruins rewards with panoramic views of the Danube and the patchwork of vineyards below. The village also serves as a starting point for exploring the Wachau's cultural and natural treasures, including nearby abbeys and river cruises.
