Mautern an der Donau is a historic town located on the south bank of the Danube River, opposite Durnstein. Its old town features narrow cobblestone streets, colorful medieval buildings, and a relaxed atmosphere. The town is known for its Roman heritage, with well-preserved ruins including parts of the ancient fortifications and a Roman museum. Visitors can explore the remains of the Roman camp of Favianis, which include walls and a reconstructed gate. The Danube promenade offers lovely views of the river and the Wachau Valley.
