The Roman Theatre in Bregenz is an archaeological site that preserves the foundations and lower sections of a large Roman theatre, believed to have been built in the 1st century AD. It is one of the largest Roman theatres discovered north of the Alps, with an estimated capacity of up to 7,000 spectators. The site is located in the city center, near the lake, and is open to the public as an open-air monument. Visitors can walk along the remains of the stage, orchestra, and seating areas, with informational panels explaining the history and layout. The theatre is part of the larger Roman settlement of Brigantium, which was an important trading post. While only the stone foundations remain, the scale of the structure gives a sense of the Roman presence in the region. The site is often used for cultural events in summer, bringing the ancient space back to life.
