Hoher Sonnblick is a majestic 3,105-meter mountain in the Hohe Tauern range, overlooking Bad Gastein. Its summit is home to the Sonnblick Observatory, one of the highest meteorological stations in the world, established in 1886. The area is also rich in mining history, with old gold and silver mines in the Rauris Valley. In summer, the mountain attracts hikers who tackle challenging trails to the summit, rewarded with panoramic views of the Alps. In winter, it becomes a backcountry skiing destination, with deep powder and dramatic descents. The nearby Zittelhaus, a historic hut near the summit, offers overnight accommodation and a museum.
