Wildschönau

The Wildschönau is a picturesque valley in the Kitzbühel Alps, known for its unspoiled nature and authentic Tyrolean charm. From Alpbach, it's a short drive or bus ride to this tranquil region. The valley is dotted with traditional farmhouses, alpine pastures, and small villages like Oberau, Niederau, and Auffach. In summer, the Wildschönau offers a network of well-marked hiking trails, from gentle walks along the Wildschönau Ache river to more challenging climbs up to the Schatzberg or the Roggenalm. Mountain huts serve local specialties like Kaiserschmarrn and Speckknödel. In winter, the valley transforms into a family-friendly ski area with 45 kilometers of slopes, plus winter hiking trails and toboggan runs. What makes the Wildschönau distinctive is its authentic, laid-back atmosphere, less crowded than the neighboring Zillertal, it offers a genuine taste of rural Tyrolean life. Visitors can also explore the historic copper mine in the valley or visit the local cheese dairy.
