Duck Reach Power Station was the first publicly owned hydroelectric plant in the Southern Hemisphere, opening in 1895. Now a museum, it showcases the original turbines, generators, and interpretive displays about Tasmania's pioneering role in renewable energy. The site is reached by a pleasant walking trail from Cataract Gorge, following the South Esk River. Visitors can explore the stone building, see the machinery up close, and enjoy panoramic views of the gorge from the nearby suspension bridge.
