Tien Dat has been a reliable place to get excellent Vietnamese inspired food for years. Lots of staff, quick service and reasonably priced. Vegetarian selection was great for my vegetarian friends.
Tasty and clean restaurant. 2 levels and seating can be quite tight especially with kids and babies. Staff stuff up the online booking, but fast service for food. Tasty and fresh, one of the best ones in box hill.
We were very disappointed last night. Myself and 2 friends went out for a special dinner. The meal orders were confused four times. The waiters did not listen to our orders including confusion over which meals were gluten free or with chilli. Consequently , we were all eating at different times because of this. There was no formal apology given for the inconvenience and no offer of a reduced bill. We left disappointed and would not recommend this place at all. Overall a complete waste of money. The customer should always be treated as number one and treated with respect.
Went here with another couple and had booked 4 days in advance. Was seated right next to the door which was absolutely freezing, however people that came the same time without a booking got seated further into the restaurant, which seemed not quite right… anyhow The menu has definitely changed over time.Tien Dat used to be fabulous. I know the original owners had sold and moved on , and these new owners have obviously changed the menu to include different asian style meals apart from Vietnamese dishes. The waitress, while pleasant was not very capable at understanding or answering simple questions about the menu. The menu was very hard to navigate and was not straightforward. My meal which basically came out as chicken with vegetables was bland and the chicken rubbery with a strange taste to it, which I thought at the time must have been ginger. The other people in my party seemed to enjoy theirs. One had Satay chicken and he raved about it. The cost for 4 soft drinks, 4 main meals, 2 serves of Roti, 1 rice and an entree came to $185, so not a cheap meal. The next day 3 out of 4 of us were not well. 2 had diarrhoea and the other severe cramping and bloating. This went on for a couple of days. No wonder the chicken had a strange taste to it. You live and learn, but I was so bitterly disappointed and will never go back. $185 wasted.
