Lagotto is, without a doubt, one of the best dining experiences in Melbourne. Portions are hefty, drinks are QUALITY, food is simultaneously delicious and innovative - and the staff are masters of hospitality. This venue can be succinctly described as polished. Our long luncheon was expertly organised. We felt the waitress was personable and delivered such considerate recommendations on drink choice. I wish I could come here every day for the martini. 5/5 Lagotto!!
Had the Chef’s Menu $110 pp, I can’t really fault the food, it was all quite good, with the focaccia and the honey whipped butter being the star of the show. But the service was slow, which is surprising because we ordered the Chef’s Menu. For context, there was about 1 hour wait between the pasta dish and the steak, our whole seating ended up being 6.15PM-10.15 PM. We were lucky we didn’t have anything planned afterwards, they did give us an extra dessert after so that pacified most of us at least. Also the outdoor seating could really use some work, it is quite a stark contrast to the indoor.
Lagotta was a very good restaurant, the service professional and friendly and the food Very well presentd and tasty. The dishes were creative and the right size and the right price. Wine prices were a little over the top and the range limited by the glass, the only issue. Recommended and 4.5.
Nice lunch in a lovely well spaced room. Started with an excellent and unusual Octopus Carpaccio on a creamy rouille and a well thought out Waygu Tartare, potato chips and cured, smoked egg yolk. All clever, well presented and delicious, as was the terrific focaccia. Opted for pasta as the main with my wife's Saffron Spaghettoni, scallops in a cream sauce being again well presented, using great ingredients and a pleasure to eat. My Chestnut Tortellini, Parmesan foam, brown butter and truffle was a fail. What l was expecting was visible pasta, a drizzle of brown butter, a nap of foam and shaved truffle. What l got was submerged, under cooked pasta with no real chestnut flavour impact, all drowned in foam and butter .....something more resembling a soup. A creamy, oily mess and not particularly pleasant to eat....either a misconceived dish or a failure in execution. Green salad accompaniment however was excellent. Pasta serve sizes are really generous but (personal preference) would opt to share in future ,as dessert became out of the question. A related issue - a majority of the dishes heavily lean to butter and cream and protein making it difficult to construct anything resembling a lighter, balanced meal. It can be done l suppose, but one would have to be really careful and the options are limited. Despite the issue with my pasta, this is a serious, food focused Italian establishment that deserves patronage. Decent, Italian focused wine list, friendly professional service at a reasonable price point.
