Flinders Street Station is Melbourne's most iconic building, a grand Edwardian-Baroque railway terminus from 1909, with its famous yellow-and-cream facade, copper dome, and the row of clocks above the main entrance showing departure times. 'Meet me under the clocks' has been a Melbourne tradition for generations, making the front steps the city's most beloved meeting point. As Australia's busiest suburban railway station and the gateway to the city centre, it sits at a prime corner opposite Federation Square and St Paul's Cathedral, by the Yarra River.
You don't 'tour' it so much as admire it and pass through, it's a working station, but its grand architecture, the clocks, and its central position make it an essential Melbourne landmark and orientation point. Photograph the facade, meet under the clocks, and use it as the launchpad for exploring the CBD, Federation Square, and the laneways.
