Standing 48 meters tall, the Shot Tower in Taroona is one of the world's oldest surviving shot towers, built in 1870. Visitors can climb the 259 steps to the top for sweeping views of the Derwent River and surrounding bushland. Inside, interpretive panels explain the fascinating process of making lead shot by dropping molten lead from the top into water below. The adjacent café and grounds make it a pleasant stop for a picnic or a coffee with a view.
