Pink Lake is a shallow salt lake just outside Esperance, famous for its vibrant pink coloration, which results from the presence of Dunaliella salina algae and high salinity. The lake's color is most vivid on sunny days, especially in the morning or late afternoon. Visitors can stop at designated viewing areas along the road, take photographs, and learn about the lake's ecology from interpretive signs. While swimming is not permitted, the striking pink water against the blue sky creates a memorable sight.
Don't miss
- Photograph the lake's pink water from the roadside lookout.
- Read the interpretive signs explaining the algae's role in the color.
- Visit on a clear, sunny day for the most intense pink hue.
