Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve is a coastal haven connected to Coffs Harbour's mainland by a breakwater. The island is a vital breeding site for wedge-tailed shearwaters (muttonbirds), which nest in burrows from August to April. A walking trail circles the island, providing stunning views of the Solitary Islands Marine Park and the coastline. Visitors can observe the seabirds up close and enjoy the rugged natural beauty, with interpretive signs explaining the island's ecology and cultural significance to the Gumbaynggirr people.
