Cape Byron Light, built in 1901, stands proudly atop the easternmost point of mainland Australia. Visitors can climb to the top for sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, the Byron Bay coastline, and the hinterland. The surrounding headland is a popular spot for whale watching during migration season (June–November), where humpbacks are often seen breaching. The lighthouse precinct includes a museum in the former keeper's cottage, and the area is part of the Cape Byron State Conservation Area, with walking trails that lead to secluded beaches and lookouts.

Don't miss

  • Climb the lighthouse tower for 360-degree views of the ocean and coastline.
  • Spot humpback whales from the headland during their annual migration.
  • Explore the historic lighthouse museum and keeper's cottage exhibits.
