Zvartnots Cathedral, built between 643-652 AD, was a marvel of medieval architecture with its unique three-tiered circular plan, rising over 45 meters. Though now in ruins after an earthquake in the 10th century, the remaining foundations and columns reveal its grandeur. Visitors can see the massive stone columns, intricate vine and pomegranate carvings, and the reconstructed arch. The site also offers views of Mount Ararat, making it a photographer's delight and a testament to Armenian architectural ingenuity.
Don't miss
- The reconstructed arch and column capitals with intricate grapevine motifs
- The panoramic view of Mount Ararat from the site
- The museum displaying artifacts and architectural fragments from the cathedral
