Odzun Church stands as a masterpiece of early medieval Armenian architecture, built in the 6th century. Its most striking feature is the central dome, an unusual addition to a basilica plan, supported by four massive pillars. The exterior walls are adorned with carved reliefs, including a famous depiction of Christ’s baptism and scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist. Inside, the spacious nave and apse create a solemn atmosphere, while the surrounding cemetery and khachkars (cross-stones) add historical depth. Visitors can explore the church grounds, admire the stone carvings, and enjoy views of the Debed River gorge from the hilltop location.

Don't miss

  • Examine the 6th-century stone reliefs on the exterior, especially the baptism scene.
