Plaza de Mayo is the political and historical heart of Buenos Aires, a vast open square that has witnessed centuries of Argentine history. Flanked by iconic buildings, the pink presidential palace (Casa Rosada), the colonial Cabildo, and the Metropolitan Cathedral, the plaza is a starting point for understanding the city's past and present. Visitors can stroll across the cobblestones, observe the eternal flame at the Pirámide de Mayo (a monument to the 1810 revolution), and watch the changing of the guard at the Casa Rosada. The square is also a gathering place for political demonstrations, including the weekly Thursday marches of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo, who seek remembrance for their disappeared children.

Don't miss
