Our Lady of Meritxell is the spiritual heart of Andorra, dedicated to the country's patron saint. The original 12th-century Romanesque church was destroyed by fire in 1972, and the current structure, designed by architect Ricardo Bofill, was completed in 1976. Its contemporary design incorporates traditional elements, such as a slate roof and stone walls, while featuring a striking modern interior with a large mosaic of the Virgin. The sanctuary complex includes a museum and a small chapel. Pilgrims and visitors come to pay homage and enjoy the peaceful mountain setting.
