Et'hem Bey Mosque is a rare gem in Tirana, known for its beautifully painted frescoes depicting trees, waterfalls, and bridges, a departure from traditional Islamic geometric art. Built between 1789 and 1823, it survived the communist era when religion was banned and reopened in 1991. Visitors can enter the prayer hall (shoes off, head covered) to see the intricate floral and landscape murals. The mosque remains an active place of worship, offering a peaceful contrast to the bustling square outside.
Don't miss
- Admire the unique frescoes of natural scenes inside the prayer hall.
- Observe the elegant minaret and Ottoman-style architecture from outside.
- Experience the contrast of a historic mosque against the modern square.
